Anglin’s Fishing Pier: A Diverse Ecosystem

Debbie H - Friday, April 13, 2018

Anglin’s Fishing Pier has been a Lauderdale-By-The-Sea fixture for 55 years. Stretching out 900 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a plethora of diverse fish and beautiful ocean views while being open 24 hours a day.

A Staple in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Anglin’s is an important part of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea and its history. It first opened on November 24, 1963 and has offered tourists and residents a secluded haven for catching their favorite fish.

Fish to Find at Anglin’s
At Anglin’s, you can catch many different types of seasonal fish depending on the time of year. You can find cobia and pompano in spring and fall; bluefish and mackerel in spring, fall and winter; and permit in spring. However, there are plenty of fish around all year, including snappers, snook, blue runners and croakers.

There are three different points of the pier at which you can set up your gear and find a fresh catch. At the beginning of the pier, you may find whiting, grunts, mangrove snapper, snook and croakers. At the middle house, you’ll find snook, pompano, permit, snapper, tarpon, cobia, bluefish and mackerel. From the middle house out, all of the above fish and more can be found.

Types of Fishing
Two types of fishing are offered at Anglin’s: sand fishing, which can be done from the bait house to the middle house, and reef “rock” fishing, from the middle house out to the “T” at the end of the pier.

Making Fishing Easier
Anglin’s is privately owned and operated and holds a commercial fishing license, which makes fishing here easier and less expensive for visitors who live out of state.
Fishing is one of the many exciting activities awaiting you in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. If you’re interested in learning about Anglin’s or making a visit, stop by the Visitor’s Center (4201 Ocean Drive (A1A)) Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Walk in or call, whatever works for you!
