BugFest-By-The-Sea, a Florida mini-season dive festival in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, is fast approaching. Outside the Keys, by the way, the bag limit is 12 bugs per day!
Congratulations to Brent Yturralde of Pompano Beach, the diver who bagged the biggest spiny lobster at the Town's third annual BugFest-By-The-Sea event in late July. The winning "bug" was 4.17 pounds. More than 200 divers and snorkelers took part in BugFest, which started with a photo exhibit of underwater art on July 25 and ended with a film presentation on protecting coral reefs in Jarvis Hall on Aug. 2. Divers from Arizona, North Dakota and Pennsylvania came to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea to attend BugFest this year. Thanks to Reef Safe, Guy Harvey Outpost, Gold Coast Scuba, Deep Blue Divers, South Florida Diving Headquarters and all the BugFest Committee volunteers, residents and Town businesses who helped make BugFest a huge success. More than 100 divers took part in the Great Florida Bug Hunt! Thanks also to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau for their support in promoting BugFest! Here's a list of all the top winners:
